Ashes Scattering & Memorial Charters

A quiet, personal farewell on Cornish waters.

For many families, the sea is the right place to say goodbye. Whether your loved one sailed these waters, swam here every summer, or simply loved the ocean, we can help you give them a peaceful, dignified farewell, handled with warmth and care by our small family crew.

A Private, Unhurried Goodbye

Your family and friends, up to 12 people , will have Ellihaye entirely to yourselves. Our experienced skipper will take you to a calm, meaningful spot along the coast or rivers, then give you all the time and privacy you need.

There is no script and no schedule. Some families share memories and readings, some play a favourite piece of music, some simply sit quietly together as the coastline passes. Every farewell is different, and all of them are right.

The Charter

  • 2-hour memorial charter: £300 for the whole boat (up to 12 guests)
  • Need longer? Choose a 3-hour (£450) or 4-hour (£600) sailing when you book — time for a longer cruise to a special place, or simply an unhurried journey back
  • Available all year round, morning or afternoon: choose the date and time that suits your family
  • A compassionate skipper and crew who will guide you through how scattering at sea works, and then step back

What You Can Expect

  • Guidance on choosing a suitable, sheltered location: or tell us about a spot that mattered to them
  • A fully heated indoor cabin, so nobody is left cold on a difficult day
  • Flowers or petals may be scattered with the ashes (biodegradable only, please)
  • No licence is needed to scatter ashes at sea in the UK: we take care of all the practicalities on the water
  • Dogs are welcome: if their friend should be there too, bring them along

Food & Drink, If You'd Like It

Some families like to raise a glass or share food together on the water, a toast on the way home, tea and cake in the cabin, or something more substantial. When you book, you can add:

  • Tea, coffee & Cornish cake: a warm cup and something sweet for the journey back
  • A toast to them: Prosecco, or a dram of local rum or gin, poured for every guest
  • Grazing boards: Cornish cheeses, charcuterie and bread, served in the cabin

Or bring your own, entirely welcome, at no charge. The bar on board is licensed if anyone would like a drink on the day.

How to Arrange Your Day

Book online below: choose your date, time, sailing length and anything you'd like on board. There's a space to tell us about your loved one and any wishes for the day.

Or simply call us or fill out the form on our contact page.

If it's easier to talk it through, phone or WhatsApp Nina on 07815 549454.

We're a family business, and we treat every farewell as if it were our own family.

Practical details: we sail from Port Pendennis Marina, Falmouth. The meeting point is the RNLI Falmouth Lifeboat Station, Tinners Walk (What3Words: ///nurse.shared.risks); parking is at Bar Road Car Park (cash only). If the weather isn't safe on your chosen day, your skipper will call you and we'll find a new date together, or refund you in full.

2 hour Wildlife & History Tour

Whatever the Season

A farewell doesn't wait for perfect weather, and it doesn't need to. We sail all year round, and Ellihaye is well suited to quieter days on the water, her fully heated cabin and comfortable indoor seating mean everyone stays warm, whatever the day brings.

Some families choose a bright summer morning; others find that soft rain or a still, grey sea feels right. Through the cabin's large windows, Cornwall's rivers and coastline are beautiful in every light, and there is something quietly fitting about the water in every season.

If conditions aren't safe on your chosen day, your skipper will call you personally and we'll find a new date together, with no pressure and no charge.
