Frenchman’s Creek and the Fal: Cornwall’s Most Atmospheric River Explored by Boat
A private boat charter is one of those experiences that’s more accessible than people assume — and far more versatile. Whether you’re planning a fishing trip, a family day out, a celebration, or a corporate event with a difference, chartering from Falmouth puts one of the UK’s most spectacular coastlines at your disposal.
At Pendennis Boat Charters, we’ve been running private charters from Falmouth for years. Here’s what makes the experience special — and how to plan one.
What Type of Charter Are You After?
Private charters divide broadly into a few categories:
- Fishing charters — targeting wrasse, pollock, bass, mackerel, and in season, shark and reef species
- Coastal exploration — sailing to Helford River, St Mawes, Frenchman’s Creek, or the Lizard coastline
- Wildlife and scenic trips — seal colonies, sea caves, and the chance of dolphin and shark encounters
- Celebration charters — birthdays, anniversaries, corporate events, hen and stag parties with a difference
How Far Can We Go?
Falmouth is ideally positioned for an enormous range of destinations within a comfortable day’s range. The Helford River offers tranquil estuary sailing and excellent anchorages. St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula are outstanding for scenic coastal cruising. More adventurous groups sometimes head west towards the Lizard or north to the Fal estuary.
What’s Included in a Charter?
Our charters include an experienced skipper, safety equipment, and fuel. Fishing charters include all necessary tackle and bait. We ask guests to bring their own food and drinks (we have appropriate facilities on board), appropriate clothing including waterproofs, and any personal medications including seasickness tablets if you know you need them.
How Many People Can Attend?
Our vessels comfortably accommodate groups of up to 12 passengers for most charter types. For larger groups or special events, contact us to discuss options.
When to Book
May through September is prime charter season, and popular dates — particularly weekends and bank holidays — book up months in advance. If you have a specific date in mind, early booking is strongly recommended.
We’re also happy to accommodate mid-week charters, which are often more flexible on dates and can be excellent value.
